Questions
Common questions, answered plainly.
A few things worth knowing before we start. If yours is not here, just ask.
Working together
What kind of work do you take on?
Fast, considered websites for makers and small businesses: a single page, a small site or a fuller considered build with a journal. Calm, accessible work that loads quickly and stays out of its own way.
Who is it for, and who is it not for?
It is for creative people whose work is excellent and whose website is quietly letting it down. It is not for the cheapest possible page, the biggest possible site or a platform full of features you will never use. If that is what you need we will say so early and point you somewhere honest.
How long does a build take?
Most builds run a few weeks, depending on scope and how quickly content and feedback come back. We work in small, legible steps so you always know where things are.
Do you write the copy and sort the images?
We help with both. Image help is available if your work deserves better pictures than it has, and we will guide the words so the site reads like you. The more you bring, the faster it moves.
Can you redesign my existing site?
Often, yes. We will look at what you have, tell you honestly what is worth keeping and quote the work from there.
Do you build online stores or booking systems?
Our focus is sites that bring in enquiries, not online stores. If you need to sell or take bookings we will point you somewhere honest rather than sell you the wrong thing.
Where are you based?
We work remotely across Australia and travel light, so where you are is rarely the issue.
Looking after the site
Can I update the site myself, or do you handle changes?
Either. By default we look after changes for you on a care plan, which keeps the craft consistent and the site fast. If you would rather manage it yourself we can add a simple browser-based editor, set up and priced as its own piece of work.
What counts as a "small change" on a care plan?
Text edits, swapping images, updating prices or details, adding a journal post and small tweaks to what is already there. Anything that needs new design, new pages, new sections or new features is project work. We will tell you which it is before we touch it, and quote anything outside the plan.
Do unused minutes roll over?
No. The plans are for having us on hand month to month, not for saving up hours. If a bigger change is coming it is usually better handled as a small quoted job anyway, and we will say so.
What if I need more than my plan covers?
Easy. Anything beyond your monthly allowance is charged at our hourly rate of $120 an hour, with no plan or commitment required. We will give you a quick estimate first so you are never surprised.
Can I pause or cancel a care plan?
Yes. The plans are month to month, cancel whenever you like. No lock-in, the same as everything else.
Scope, money and ownership
How many rounds of changes are included in a build?
Two rounds of refinement at the direction stage and two once it is in build. That is plenty for a considered site. If you would like to keep iterating beyond that we are happy to, at our hourly rate.
Can I add pages or features later?
Yes, and the build is made to grow. New pages and features are quoted as their own small piece of work, so you only pay for what you add, when you add it.
What is the difference between a brand refresh and a full identity?
A refresh tidies and strengthens what you already have: the wordmark, the palette, the type and simple usage rules. A full identity, built from scratch, is a larger and separate piece of work. We will tell you which one you actually need.
Who owns the site when it is done?
You do. The site and the files are yours to keep, with no lock-in and no rented platform.
How does payment work?
A deposit books the work in, with the balance as set out in your proposal. A launched site moves to you on final payment.
How fast will you reply?
On a basic care plan, within two business days. On the plans with edits you get priority, usually within one business day. During a build we keep a steady, legible pace and you always know where things are.
